How to clean jewellery

Jewellery can be a beautiful way to express your personal style and add a touch of luxury to any outfit. However, over time, it can lose its shine and lustre due to dirt and oils that accumulate on the surface.

Knowing how to properly clean and care for your jewellery is essential to keep it looking its best for years to come.

In this blog post, we'll share some helpful tips and tricks for cleaning your jewellery and restoring its natural sparkle.

The number one rule? Always “Be Gentle”. Don’t scrub hard, don’t use any harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. If cleaning above the sink, try to have a bowl beneath so nothing falls through the sink hole.

Follow these simple steps for great results

  1. Fill up a small bowl with warm water
  2. Pour in half a teaspoon of washing up liquid
  3. Mix & leave jewellery in the bowl for a few minutes to release the grime
  4. With a brush, gently scrub the grime away
  5. Wash the jewellery thoroughly afterwards with warm water and pat dry

Keep in mind, if the dirt is stubborn, the water will need to be a little bit warmer, and you will need to leave it in the water for longer &/or repeat Step 4.

Do this once every 2 weeks, or prior to an occasion.

If you would like a full thorough clean which cleans underneath set stones and into places where you are unable to reach with a brush, just bring it in and we can get this done for you for a small cost. Book a consultation on the Repairs & Servicing's section.
